BRIEF

Competition - design a thought provoking temporary installation that is engaging, inviting, exploratory

The 2019 NGV Architecture Commission invited emerging and established architects to propose a compelling architectural intervention within the NGV’s Grollo Equiset Garden. Competitors were invited to activate the garden with a thought provoking temporary installation that is engaging, inviting, exploratory. Design proposals could be many things: a place for playful interaction or an immersive space of quiet reflection. A social hub that celebrates public gathering or a private invitation to explore the hidden corners and secret fragments of the garden.

Our competition entry was titled Ribbon Dais.

The design intended to offer a range of experiences and opportunities from performances and cocktail events, to catwalk fashion shows. The imaginative design provides photo opportunities for visitors, as well as enticement for children to climb and play.

We proposed lightweight steel framing, a combination of flexible plywood painted and finished timber decking for the elevated platform, and a combination of brightly coloured paints and reflective decals.
