PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Champagnat Chapel at Newman College in Churchlands derives its clarity from the people and the place. It resonates with the constant use by students but maintains its liturgical nature amidst a multitude of uses. The liturgy defines EIW's planning concepts and while an adaptable and flexible space, it features upon entry flowing water over a solid Kimberley rock, defining the space as one of reflection, prayer and worship. Natural materials abound as inspired by the home of Marcellin Champagnat in France and the Marist Brothers philosophy of simplicity of materials. It is a space that flows from its natural setting amid mature eucalypt trees, celebrating its place within nature and the symbolism of growth, regeneration and maturity.
