PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The brief for this project was to incorporate the current separate Arts and Technology faculties into one facility, so as to encourage seamless interaction between the disciplines within a functional and economical building.
As the existing site had been extensively developed, a parcel of land was identified to the south east corner of the site, which allowed for strong connections with both the existing primary and secondary school communities.
The ground floor comprises of Art Studios, enclosed external Arts Courtyard, Media, Seminar and GPLAs. These rooms have direct external access to the south onto a terraced veranda which overlooks the oval, and provides a performance area for sporting and other social activities.
The upper floor comprises of Staff Room, Food & Nutrition, Design Studio, Materials Studio (timber, metal & plastics) and GPLAs. The strong connection between the Design and Material Studios enhances the ability for students to effectively bring their design ideas to fruition. The three GPLAs are divided by operable walls, which enable the rooms to be opened into one large space for social events and exhibitions.
